The small field to the east of the forest was included in the sale. It has a covenant from an earlier transfer of ownership requiring the field to be used only for agricultural purposes, and that any use should not cause a nuisance to the original vendors.

Funds were raised to meet the costs from local individuals and organisations, together with a substantial grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and English Nature.

In the second half of 2001, the area known as Ring Haw also became available for purchase. This provided an opportunity to acquire a substantial further area of woodland and limestone grassland. Its location close to Stonepit Quarry and Old Sulehay Forest is a wonderful opportunity for the Trust to meet its Development Plan to manage large areas of limestone grassland and ancient woodland and link reserves together. Large areas of habitat are essential to conserve viable populations of threatened species. After a further appeal to local individuals, organisations and the Heritage Lottery Fund, funds were raised to meet the costs, and the site was acquired by the Trust in February 2002.
